Can you imagine a job site or office where everyone is engaged and contributing to the best of their intellectual ability? Former nuclear submarine commander and 20th Annual LCI Congress opening keynote speaker David Marquet can — and he’ll explain how to achieve such a work place, with happier, healthier people who take control over their work, during his LCI Congress presentation.
Captain Marquet’s shift in leadership approach began when he was assigned to a nuclear-powered submarine that was ranked last in operational standing. He quickly realized the traditional leadership approach of “take control, give orders” would not work, so he began treating his crew as leaders instead of followers by encouraging them to take control. His new leadership style paid off when the USS Santa Fe submarine went from “worst to first,” achieving the highest retention and operational standing in the Navy.
After retiring from the US Navy in 2009, Captain Marquet continued down the path of intent-based leadership and organizational design by writing the Amazon #1 Best Seller, “Turn the Ship Around! A True Story of Turning Followers Into Leaders.” His book is meant to help professionals create empowering work environments that maximize the passion, initiative and intellect of each individual team member.
2018 LCI Congress attendees can apply his highly effective leadership approach to their own work both in the field and in the office by empowering contributing teammates to take control. Learn what you need to do to turn your own ship around when you attend David Marquet’s interactive keynote presentation, at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17.
